Interior to Hold First Consultation on BIA Reorganization on Tuesday, June 19

In its May 17, 2018 Dear Tribal Leader Letter, the Department of the Interior (DOI) announced it will begin consultations on "how to implement the principles of efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability in a manner that substantially improves services to . . . Tribes and Tribal citizens across Indian Country." The principles referenced are those included in Executive Order (E.O.) 13781, Comprehensive Plan for Reorganizing the Executive Branch.

The DTLL notes that Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke recently "announced his vision to establish 13 unified regional office boundaries across all of the Department's Bureaus." The consultations are being carried out to hear from tribes on how Indian Affairs may fit into the overall DOI reorganization. MORE INFORMATION.
