ASSISTANT TRIBAL CLIMATE RESILIENCE LIAISONS – ALASKA REGION

The Assistant Tribal Climate Resilience Liaison (Asst. TCRL) for the Alaska Climate Adaptation Science Center (AK CASC) serves as support on Alaska Tribal climate adaptation science needs under the guidance and direction of the Senior Tribal Climate Resilience Liaison (Sr. TCRL) of the Native American Fish and Wildlife Society (NAFWS).

The Asst. TCRL is responsible for working with the Sr. TCRL to provide technical assistance and to work with tribal communities across Alaska to improve their capacity to prepare for and respond to climate-related environmental impacts. Duties include but are not limited to outreach and extension programming on tribal climate impacts, concerns and adaptation strategies; support efforts to enhance information exchange; assist communities to identify and prioritize resilience and adaptation projects; and work with another Asst. TCRL and a seasonal Alaska Native Student Intern.

Location: Duty station will be Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Juneau, AK.

Remote work may be possible upon approval by the Executive Director.

NAFWS Certified Technician Curriculum Consultant

NAFWS seeks the services of a qualified natural resources consultant that specializes in curriculum development. The award will be made to a responsive and responsible person/firm based on the best value and professional capability.

Tasks include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Assessment of field components for discipline specific natural resource technicians
    •  Fisheries
  • Development of web-based and in-person national course(s)
  • Identify existing in-person and web-based training resources
  • Establish the minimum criteria for tribal certification standards
  • Meet with the NAFWS Board of Directors and Executive Director as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Description: The Knowledge Steward intern is responsible for helping coordinate, facilitate, document, and analyze workshops, community visits, and Indigenous Knowledge bearer interviews as part of a project to document Indigenous Knowledge of Kuskokwim salmon life cycles and Tribal recommendations to improve fisheries management processes (“Advancing Inclusion of Indigenous Knowledge and Co-Stewardship of Kuskokwim River Salmon in Alaska Federal Marine Fishery Management”). The Knowledge Steward will work closely with KRITFC’s Programs Manager, Executive Director, and project partners at Ocean Conservancy

Tyonek Tribal Conservation District

Habitat Programs DirectorLocation: Anchorage, Ak and involves day and multi-day travel to remote western Cook Inlet communities (Tyonek, Beluga, and Skwentna) and other locations during the summer months. Application Deadline: Open Until Filled Salary Range: $80,000-90,000 annually

Description: The Tyonek Tribal Conservation District (TTCD) team is seeking an Outreach Manager who will be responsible for community outreach, collaborative storytelling, and educational programming. Current projects include the development and implementation of K-12 conservation curriculum, content creation and curation for a new website concept, multi-modal community engagement, storytelling via social media and quarterly newsletters, networking with district partners, grant management, assisting other TTCD teams with their outreach needs, and monitoring measurable outreach goals for our outreach programs. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing and delivering place-based, culturally relevant curriculum for K-12 classrooms, collaborating with content experts to develop meaningful engagement, program management experience, excellent storytelling skills, and a work style conducive to learning and working on a variety of projects at once. Description: Responsible for assisting in developing a successful and functional Kowabdanawa odë kė Program on tribal properties. Climate Resilience SpecialistLocation: Dowagiac, MI Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

Description: The Climate Resilience Specialist will provide technical expertise and coordination support to develop and integrate Tribal priorities regarding climate resilience, change, and adaptation. The Climate Resilience Specialist may be supported through multiple grants or entirely through tribal funds, so attention to program details is essential. Responsible for developing strategies to integrate climate resilience/change effects and adaptation scenarios into governmental planning for tribal properties and governmental operations. Responsible for working directly with multiple Pokagon Band departments, regional, and local climate change groups to help develop tribal and non-tribal plans as they relate to climate change effects and the ability to adapt to the changing climate. Responsible for developing climate change related projects, seeking out funding sources to support climate resilience, and assist in developing grant proposals to implement projects. Responsible for position-related grant management and implementation, leading climate resilience fieldwork, data management, data analysis, technical report writing, and creating management recommendations as they relate to climate resilience/change/adaptation.

Description: The Senior Research Associate will design and manage research projects for the NCAI Institute for Environmental Sovereignty. Description: The Environmental Analyst will conduct research and analysis on environmental and natural resource matters important to Indian Country for the NCAI Institute for Environmental Sovereignty. Applicants should have at least eight years of experience in the field of environmental science, biology, toxicology, and/or forestry, preferably including at a federal or state regulatory agency. Description: The Policy Lead – Environmental Sovereignty will conduct in-depth research and analysis on environmental, natural resource, and conservation law and policy at the tribal, federal, state, local, and international levels for the NCAI Institute for Environmental Sovereignty.
